Kalinić: Unity is the only guarantee of the Serb people’s survival

Former President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Dragan Kalinić, emphasized ahead of the Day of Serb Unity, Freedom, and National Flag that unity is the sole guarantee of the Serb people’s survival.

In a statement to Srna, Kalinić remarked that the celebration of the joint holiday of Republika Srpska and Serbia, which will be observed tomorrow, awakens the feeling that Serbs on both sides of the Drina River are one people, whom foreign powers have constantly tried to divide. He expressed hope that Serbs will continue to rely on each other through concrete actions in the future.

Kalinić noted that this year’s Day of Unity, Freedom, and National Flag is being marked only three months after the All-Serb Assembly in Belgrade.

  • In this way, this historical remembrance of the glorious success of the Serbian army in breaking through the Salonika Front and liberating the country becomes a paradigm for the essential messages of the recent Assembly – for Serb unity, the unbreakable desire for freedom, the preservation of national identity, where the flag is much more than just a symbol, and the building of a common life and future in all fields – Kalinić stated.

He stressed that in the future, the Serb people, under one flag with the same colors, will demonstrate that freedom, statehood, and the advancement of their own people are more important than anything else.

  • Just as the Salonika soldiers did not falter when it was most difficult, and when many had written us off, we now have enough strength, and I hope the wisdom and foresight to break through the barriers and show that we are an indestructible people because we are defending what is ours – said Kalinić.

He added that the Serb people defend what they have gained through sacrifice, do not seek what is not theirs, do not impose on others, and even in the toughest moments, extend a hand of friendship and coexistence.

Let us be proud descendants of the glorious Serbian warriors who, in the hardest battles, held high and protected our national flag – Kalinić concluded.

The Day of Serb Unity, Freedom, and National Flag, observed on September 15, is jointly celebrated by Serbia and Republika Srpska. The holiday was established in 2020 to commemorate the breakthrough of the Salonika Front during World War I.
