The president of the Hungarian Association of Republika Srpska, Magyar Iren Milivojević, praised the recent visit of Republika Srpska’s president Milorad Dodik to Hungary, along with meetings and agreements with the country’s top officials led by Viktor Orban. She noted that these developments further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two nations in various fields.
“I hope these positive relations and the connection between the people continue. It’s wonderful because, among other things, the Serb high school in Budapest is attended by many children from here, who are very satisfied with the treatment they receive there. Hungary truly provides tremendous support to Srpska, and the relationship is mutual. May it last,” Milivojević told Srna.
Milivojević emphasized that the ties between Republika Srpska and Hungary have significantly strengthened in recent years, thanks to the good relationship between their leadership, benefiting not only the Hungarian minority but all citizens of Srpska.
“I am happy about these positive relations, which can also be seen in the work of the ‘Progresus’ Foundation, which has helped secure significant non-refundable funds from Hungary for the purchase of agricultural machinery. This will greatly benefit agricultural producers and foster the already good relationship between Hungarians and Serbs. A friendly, fair, and cooperative relationship is developing, and there will likely be new Hungarian entrepreneurs starting businesses here,” said Milivojević, who is also a certified court interpreter for the Hungarian language.
She highlighted that the Hungarian Association of Republika Srpska, “Mađar So,” is supported by the Hungarian government, which pays full attention to all its citizens living outside Hungary.
Milivojević invited anyone interested to sign up for the upcoming free, two-week Hungarian language course in Banja Luka, emphasizing that the Hungarian government has provided the instructor for the course.
“The instructor will be here for nine months, and we are very grateful to Orban’s government for this opportunity. Anyone interested should register for the course by September 19 by contacting our association or the honorary Hungarian consul, Slaven Grbić. We will have two classes a week, and we will organize groups,” Milivojević announced, adding that the course will be held at Cara Lazara 2 in Banja Luka.
She also mentioned that, thanks to the good relations between Republika Srpska and Hungary, there has been an increase in tourist visits from Hungarians to Srpska in recent years.
“According to my information, Hungarians are delighted by the hospitality of the local people and are eager to return,” she said.
The Hungarian Association in Srpska has over 50 active members and was founded and registered in 2003 in Banja Luka. It is an active member of the Alliance of National Minorities of Srpska and works to preserve the Hungarian identity, language, and culture.
