Red Star to play a friendly match against Jahorina

A basketball spectacle is set to take place in Pale tonight, as Jahorina will face Crvena zvezda in their premier match of the new season at 6 PM.

This friendly match has generated significant attention not only in Pale but also in other parts of Republika Srpska, as it will feature the reigning champions of the ABA League and Serbia, who will once again compete in the EuroLeague this fall. Basketball fans will have the opportunity to see former and current Serbian national team players such as Miloš Teodosić, Nikola Kalinić, Nemanja Nedović, Luka Mitrović, Ognjen Dobrić, and Dejan Davidovac in action. This will be the first preseason game for the Belgrade team, which began its preparations on August 19 and has been revamped during the summer. New signings include Cody Miller-McIntyre, Isaiah Canaan, Mike Daum, and Uroš Plavšić. On the other hand, the Jahorina team, which became the champions of Republika Srpska for the first time last season, will debut in the BiH League this fall. The arrival of Crvena zvezda is a top-notch marketing move as a prelude to the upcoming season.

“We expect Crvena zvezda to come with their full roster of 16 or 17 players. Even if someone doesn’t make it, it won’t diminish the spectacle because the Belgrade team is full of stars. Playing a friendly match with Zvezda is a great honor for us. It’s a privilege to share the court with such basketball greats. Many players never get the chance to compete against such strong teams and players, and we’re fortunate to have that opportunity this year. It will be a great experience for us and a significant event that goes beyond Pale and is important for the entire region and Republika Srpska. Everything is ready for the spectacle, and I truly believe it will be an event to remember,” said Jahorina coach Miro Vukoje to “Glas Srpske.”

Jahorina has formed a team within its means. Some players have left, others have stayed, and quality reinforcements needed for competing at a higher level have arrived.

“We started preparations about ten days ago, and we’ll try to be worthy opponents on the court, although we are aware that they are three levels above us, and it’s pointless to compare ourselves with them. We’ll see how much we’ve progressed, and this will be a great invitation for all basketball fans to support us in the upcoming season, just as they did last season when we won the championship title,” Vukoje added.

Rakočević

Former Serbian basketball player Igor Rakočević commented on the percentage of domestic players in Crvena zvezda for the upcoming EuroLeague season, where his former club leads the competition with 64% of domestic players on the roster (11 out of 17).

“When we look at this parameter, the number of domestic players on the team is not as significant as the total minutes they spend on the court. In that regard, KK Crvena zvezda would probably be even more dominant in first place. It doesn’t guarantee results, and it’s even harder to achieve results without many good foreign players, but it’s certainly commendable, and I like it. With one more good addition at the big man position, the team’s roster could be extremely good for this season,” Rakočević wrote on “X.”
