Republika Srpska has currently achieved understanding in parts of Europe for its neutral policy, and there is a smart way to achieve this understanding in America as well, without disrupting their key interests, stated the President of the National Assembly of Srpska, Nenad Stevandić.
In an interview with “Večernje novosti,” he said that Srpska maintains a neutral stance, while federal partners are trying to present this policy to the Americans as pro-Russian, which would lead to sanctions.
“We must be very smart to avoid traps. It is certain that American policy is also interested in peace in the Balkans, and we should seek our opportunity there. I regret that we haven’t highlighted the large number of people suspected of terrorism through BiH, who have used it as a base. These issues are swept under the rug in BiH, but the Serbs must bring them to light,” emphasized Stevandić.
He assessed that the legal processes against the President of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, are not personal, and that he is being prosecuted because he is defending the property of Srpska and preventing it from being registered under BiH.
According to Stevandić, it is clear that there will be no verdict against Dodik until after the elections, as anything before that would strengthen Dodik’s political position.
“Simultaneously with the verdict, certain power centers are also working on financial pressures on Srpska to try to undermine its financial stability. These are two parallel processes with timing, expecting unrest and instability in Srpska as a result,” he said.
When asked how Serbia and Srpska can defend themselves from attacks coming from many directions, he stated that it is necessary to be wise and not fall into the trap of narratives about creating a “Serb world” and a “Greater Serbia.”
“Both sides of the Drina are Serb. The fact that there is a temporary border and customs officials is not important,” Stevandić emphasized.

Speaking about the next steps for Belgrade and Banjaluka in implementing the Declaration adopted at the All-Serbian Assembly, he said that Srpska’s moves are economic development and political stability, noting that this will also be targeted, as Sarajevo is blocking Srpska’s and Serbia’s investments such as the construction of highways, airports, and hydroelectric plants.
“And we should respond in kind – gentlemen from Sarajevo, if there is no airport in Trebinje, there will be no projects in the Federation of BiH,” said Stevandić.
