The Serb people today are going through the same experiences they faced during the time of writer Petar Kočić, stated the Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, Radovan Višković.
Višković pointed out that “the same instigators are at play, and those who should be punished remain unchanged.”
“Why not remember his work ‘Judging’ today? We still have that same kind of judging in Bosnia and Herzegovina today. It is almost identical to what was happening during Petar Kočić’s time,” emphasized Višković.
The Prime Minister of Srpska reminded that Kočić was not just a writer, but also a people’s tribune.
“Unfortunately, Kočić did not live a long life, passing away at the age of 39, but thanks to his work, we remember him even nearly 140 years after his birth, and we are grateful for what he did,” Višković stated.
Višković noted that the Government of Srpska decided to take over the organization of the “Kočić’s Gathering” because it is an event of cultural and historical significance for Srpska.
“I urge the media to pay more attention to the cultural part of the event this year and in the years to come. The central event is not just the gathering in Petar Kočić’s birthplace, although that too is part of our history and tradition, but the significance of Petar Kočić and what he did for all of us is much greater,” Višković emphasized.
Višković highlighted that Kočić, in his time, mobilized a significant number of young people, writers, and politicians to fight for the freedom of the Serb people.
“The Serb people now finally have their freedom, have their Republic in these parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that is in a way also the work of Petar Kočić. He did not live to see it, but he fought precisely for what we enjoy today—our freedom in our Republika Srpska. That is the greatest legacy, and we must all unite to preserve our freedom. Republika Srpska is the guarantor of freedom and survival for our people in these areas,” Višković reminded.
Višković called on the Mayor of Banja Luka, Draško Stanivuković, and all citizens of Banja Luka to actively participate in the celebration of Petar Kočić’s day.
“We want this to be a magnificent event, and whoever can contribute, we thank them for that. The Government will elevate this event to an even higher level in the coming years. I hope we will never forget the messages and works that Kočić left us and that we should cherish,” Višković concluded.
