Wanting a tutor means rejecting the people’s decision-making

Darko Banjac, the president of the NPS, stated today to Srna that it is astonishing that the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Council of Ministers, Elmedin Konaković, desires a tutor for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), which implies a rejection of decision-making by the people and their elected representatives in favor of the Office of the High Representative (OHR).

“They do not want the people to decide here, but rather the OHR, someone who is not elected,” Banjac said, reacting to Konaković’s letter in which he requests the continued presence of the OHR in BiH.

He pointed out that the officials in the OHR are appointed by “people who do not understand the situation in BiH,” and reminded that Christian Schmidt is in BiH illegally as he lacks confirmation from the UN Security Council.

Banjac emphasized that Konaković’s wish for the OHR to remain also indicates a reluctance for BiH to join the EU, as BiH cannot enter the EU while it has overseers like the OHR, which forcibly changes the legal order and system—a concept that is incomprehensible.

“I don’t understand which minor forces Konaković is referring to. The citizens of both entities in BiH elect their representatives, and the political representatives of Republika Srpska, chosen by its citizens, are not minor but serious political forces committed to preserving the Dayton Agreement and peace,” Banjac stressed.

According to him, it is clear that someone does not want an agreement to be reached within BiH but prefers that foreign entities decide on BiH’s matters, which is detrimental and shows that retrograde forces from Sarajevo are hindering internal agreements.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Council of Ministers, Elmedin Konaković, sent a letter to the members of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC), U.S., and EU officials, requesting the retention of the OHR, arguing that without it, BiH would be a “dysfunctional country” exposed to alleged malign Russian influence.

He believes that “minor political forces could exploit the system and halt all processes, including those necessary for EU reforms.”
