Košarac: No abandoning the Constitution

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations in the Council of Ministers, Staša Košarac, stated that Republika Srpska will not abandon the 14 key priorities outlined in the Opinion of the European Commission, with a particular focus on the adoption of the law on the Constitutional Court of BiH and the departure of foreign judges.

“We need a partnership with structures from the Federation of BiH (FBiH), but it is evident they are avoiding solutions,” Košarac said.

He noted that financial aid from the EU is often conditioned by political criteria, constantly reshaping something beyond the Constitution and the Dayton Agreement, which is unacceptable.

“We must find a framework and a way to meet EU standards while fully respecting the Constitution, Dayton competencies, and the coordination mechanism. This is sometimes difficult and slow, but these principles cannot be abandoned,” Košarac told today’s “Dnevni Avaz” in Sarajevo.

He assessed that relations in BiH are further complicated by the fact that the “trojka” (a political coalition) constantly expects resonance from Sarajevo and SDA, trying to position itself with the electorate.

“They often have extremely radical views in line with the policies of Bakir Izetbegović. Sometimes they are just a pale copy of the SDA in institutions at the BiH level,” Košarac said.

According to him, it is evident that a strong international influence is still present in BiH, which affects the undermining of the Dayton Agreement and the BiH Constitution, as well as the erosion of mutual trust and the possibility of internal agreement between the two entities and three constituent peoples.

“There are numerous examples that prove this. The agreement reached by domestic political leaders in Laktaši lasted only as long as it took for certain structures to return to Sarajevo,” Košarac noted.

Emphasizing that energy should be directed towards internal agreement with representatives of the other two peoples, Košarac assessed that representatives from the FBiH need to show courage, responsibility, and a political stance regarding the reality that Christian Schmidt does not have the legitimacy of a high representative.

“They have not even addressed the contrived and politically motivated process against the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, who is being prosecuted merely for doing his job in accordance with the BiH Constitution and the Republika Srpska Constitution, and for refusing to comply with the whims of the illegitimate foreigner Schmidt,” Košarac said.

He reiterated that resolving the issue of Croatia’s intention to build a radioactive waste disposal site at Trgovska Gora, on the border with BiH, is a top priority for the ministry he heads, and numerous activities have been undertaken to prevent this.
