The Minister of Interior of Republika Srpska, Siniša Karan, said that the ministry maintains direct cooperation with international and police agencies in BiH, and that Bosniak politics, which negatively react to the arrival of police from Serbia in Srpska, are undermining the security system and promoting radical elements.
“No one needs to give the Ministry of Interior any approval, order, nor are we obliged to ask anyone for permission, because it is a legal provision, primarily the Law on Police and Internal Affairs of Srpska, respecting all other laws,” Karan said.
Karan pointed out that police cooperation is not recent but has been ongoing for years, even decades, especially during the tourist season, organizing public gatherings, or during regular tasks in detecting serious crimes.
“These unfortunate politicians and their politics are undermining the security system of BiH and the region and do not understand what they are doing. If we acted according to what they say, crime would have a wide space to operate,” Karan said, commenting on statements by some Bosniak politicians regarding the announced arrival of members of the Serbian Ministry of Interior to Srpska during the tourist season.
Karan emphasized that such politics carry another danger.
“They awaken extreme and radical elements in BiH, turning this into a struggle between BiH and Serbia and ultimately between the Serbian and other peoples. This is a very bad message to the citizens,” Karan said.
He added that the police officers from Serbia have not yet arrived, and that Serbia was forced to make this decision to calm tensions.
