The Dean of the Faculty of Security and Protection at the University of Banja Luka, Slobodan Župljanin, stated that terrorism is an international problem and that security experts have been warning about the danger of terrorist attacks in Bosnia and Herzegovina for years.
Župljanin mentioned that there are around 20 terrorist groups operating in Bosnia and Herzegovina. When this information was released from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was met with criticism and denial. He added that there is an unwillingness in the Federation to acknowledge the problem, while the danger looms over the entire country and the Balkans.
He emphasized that the situation is delicate and that there are enormous security challenges because global events have local impacts.
Župljanin pointed out that it is well known who formed certain terrorist organizations, all with the aim of maintaining a unipolar world.
He stressed that every individual must be cautious and aware of the existence of security threats.
“In Republika Srpska, the capacities are well developed. We have the Directorate for the Fight Against Terrorism and Extremism, but terrorism is of such a nature that no one can afford to be complacent,” said Župljanin.
Regarding Croatia’s refusal to approve the appointment of military attachés at the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zagreb, Brigadiers Mirsad Stabančić and Izudin Skopljak, due to their wartime biographies as members of the Seventh Muslim Brigade, Župljanin stated that diplomacy is a serious matter and that it is logical that former members of a notorious unit cannot serve as ambassadors.
