The Vidovdan Literary Encounters at the Museum of Herzegovina in Trebinje kicked off the Vidovdan festivities with a poetry evening.
Organized by the Trebinje branch of the Association of Writers of Republika Srpska, the poetry evening dedicated to Vidovdan featured poets from Serbia, Montenegro, and Herzegovina, including Marija Viktorija Živanović, Milica Bakrač, Aćim Višnjić, Radoslav Milošević, Dobroslav Ćuk, Olgica Cice, Svetlana Buđen, Suzana Ljepava, Nataša Stanić, and the ensemble Brojanica.
Dobroslav Ćuk, Vice President of the Trebinje branch of the Association of Writers of Republika Srpska, emphasized that the goal is for this event, as part of the Trebinje Cultural Summer, to become a tradition and already take on an international character.
“Vidovdan is something we should all be focused on, and together with writers from Serbia, we decided to organize this event,” said Ćuk.
Ivana Grujić, Director of the Trebinje Museum of Herzegovina, stated that tonight’s event includes local writers as well as those from Serbia and Montenegro.
“For the first time in Trebinje, we will have Radmila Knežević, a native of Prizren living in Montenegro, who will share poems in the Prizren dialect,” Grujić noted.
The participants of the event used selected musical and poetic expressions to revive memories of the time of the Battle of Kosovo.
As part of the Vidovdan festivities, Radmila Knežević’s poetry book “Pesme prizrenske” and the poetry collection “Bogorodica Ljeviška u pesmama,” compiled by Knežević and Lela Marković, were also promoted.
Actress and writer Radmila Knežević said that tonight in Trebinje, the audience at the poetry and literary evening will hear about the greatest heritage of Prizren, the Prizren-Timok dialect, and the well-known music of Prizren.
She mentioned that the anthology of the most beautiful poems dedicated to the Church of the Holy Virgin of Ljeviš will also be presented, with all proceeds from the sales of “Bogorodica Ljeviška u pesmama” going towards the restoration of this holy site.
“Vidovdan is wherever our heart is, and it is well known how much the people of Herzegovina are connected to Kosovo and Metohija. I hope everyone will enjoy the poems dedicated to the imperial city of Prizren,” Knežević emphasized.
The book “Pesme prizrenske” is a collection of poems written in the Prizren-Timok dialect, and it was highlighted that through these poems, Knežević aims to preserve the spirit of old Prizren and its authentic speech.
The anthology about the Holy Virgin of Ljeviš, compiled by two Prizren natives, consists of 91 poems about this holy site.
In their poetry, poets from all over Serbia, Montenegro, and Republika Srpska uniquely convey the spiritual, identity, and historical significance of this church in Dušan’s city on the Bistrica River, as highlighted at the literary evening.
In addition to the authors, the program featured writer Miroslav Aleksić with piano accompaniment by Ninoslava Zlatković.
