Did you know that the legendary jazz musician Quincy Jones and his orchestra performed in Banja Luka in the 1960s?

That concert was unforgettable because during the performance, there was a power outage, and the organizers brought candles and kerosene lamps.

This had a huge impact on Quincy and his musicians, resulting in the composition “Banjaluka,” which is still performed on world jazz stages today.

His plan for that tour was to play only three concerts – in Ljubljana, Zagreb, and Belgrade. However, thanks to the excellent organizers from the Banja Luka House of Culture, the city on the Vrbas River was added to the tour.

Quincy Jones performed the song “Banjaluka” on July 3, 1961, at the Newport Jazz Festival, and the same track was included in the live album “Newport ’61,” writes Blink.
