Students from the “Konstantin Babić” School of Elementary and Secondary Music Education in Prnjavor marked June 21st, World Music Day, with an open-air concert in the town’s main street.
Professor Ljubiša Samaradžija told Srna that the concert featured performances by lower grade students who represent the school well and who always attract special interest from the townspeople by showcasing what they have learned throughout the school year.
Samaradžija noted that the recently concluded school year was very successful for the Music School in Prnjavor, with satisfaction over the results achieved in numerous competitions.
“Each year we climb a ‘step’ higher in quality, and now we are among the top in terms of awards and recognitions in the competition of music schools in Republika Srpska,” said Samaradžija.
Accordion teacher Đorđe Lepir explained that the sounds of violin, accordion, flute, and piano could be heard in the center of Prnjavor today, and citizens, along with passersby, could enjoy the works of some of the world’s most famous composers in a relaxed setting.
“This is a type of street art festival where we uniquely celebrate June 21st with music. Our goal is to pique the curiosity and awaken the interest of our fellow citizens in classical music through our choice of music and performance,” said Lepir.
The “Konstantin Babić” Music School will enroll 16 students in the first grade of high school for the new school year, with 10 students in the music performance track and six in the music associate-theorist track.
The results of the June enrollment period will be announced tomorrow, while the enrollment for the elementary music school students was conducted earlier.
The first celebration of World Music Day was held in 1982 in Paris. On this day, musical gatherings and free performances by musicians are held in more than 460 cities across 110 countries worldwide. In some African countries, June 21st has been declared a national holiday.
