The National Assembly of Republika Srpska will hold a session in early July to ratify the Declaration of the All-Serb Assembly, announced the parliament’s president Nenad Stevandić today.

Stevandić believes that the Declaration on the common future of the Serb people is a legally meticulously crafted document with international significance, regulating not only Serb relations but also the will of Serbs to demonstrate influence on the global political scene, similar to what was shown in the UN General Assembly.

He emphasized that the Declaration was adopted at a time when a new sphere of international relations has opened, and Serbs have moved past the phase of disintegration and destruction and are now heading towards reunification.

He dismissed criticisms from Sarajevo that the Declaration is a step backward, returning Serbia and Srpska to the past, as completely inappropriate interpretations. He also noted that he is not in a position to interpret what is a step forward or backward for the Bosniaks.

Stevandić told RTS that the adopted document is not about creating a “Greater Serbia,” but about protecting the rights of Serbs everywhere.

Regarding the decision to make Sretenje the Day of Republika Srpska while preserving January 9 as the day Republika Srpska was founded, Stevandić clarified that Republika Srpska is not abandoning January 9 but will only add Sretenje.

According to him, Banja Luka and Republika Srpska will always celebrate January 9 in a ceremonial manner, including a military parade.

“We cannot abandon January 9 in any form. It is something that defined us during the phase when our coat of arms, flag, and anthem were being taken from us, and we stopped that with a referendum,” Stevandić said.

He also announced that early July will see the first session of the new inter-parliamentary body, the Parliamentary Forum Serbia – Republika Srpska, a joint organ composed of MPs from Serbia and Republika Srpska.

Stevandić mentioned that the Forum will meet twice a year to discuss issues in the political, national, cultural, social, and other spheres, and then forward them to the governments and assemblies of Serbia and Srpska. This, he said, will enhance the special and parallel ties and contribute to Serbian unity.
