A Ceremonial Academy was held at the Banski Dvor Cultural Center in Banja Luka to celebrate Russian Language Day, organized by the Center for Russian Studies of the Banja Luka Faculty of Philology. The academy was attended by the Russian Ambassador to BiH, Igor Kalabukhov.

The world celebrates Russian Language Day on the birthday of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin.

  • For us, it is our mother tongue, and the mother tongue preserves our identity. As long as our children speak our language, they feel like Russians. I am very pleased that there is growing interest in the Russian language among Serbs in Republika Srpska, as our cultures are so closely connected, said Natalja Milaković, head of the Russian Center.

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to BiH, Igor Kalabukhov, congratulated Russians on the holiday, emphasizing the importance of preserving the beauty of the mother tongue today. Pushkin, he noted, is a little-known but strong link between the Russian and Serb peoples.

  • There are many analogies and similarities between the Russian and Serbian languages, which delights us. This is both easy and challenging. This is what brings us closer together. I hope there will be further achievements in this sense, joint achievements between representatives of the Russian Federation and Republika Srpska, said Kalabukhov.

On the occasion of Russian Language Day, an evening of Pushkin’s romances was held at the Music Academy in East Sarajevo. The academy has long nurtured cooperation with the Russian Embassy in BiH.

  • This evening of Pushkin’s romances will not be just a musical evening. There will be a reflection on Pushkin’s entire oeuvre, so I think it will be very interesting for all visitors, said Maja Žuža, Dean of the Music Academy of the University of East Sarajevo.
  • It can be said that this is truly a real holiday for the Music Academy as the Russian language is presented here in an exceptional way and is firmly established in the educational program, said Ilijas Serov, the attaché of the Russian Embassy in BiH.

This year marks the 225th anniversary of Pushkin’s birth. Alexander Pushkin, a Russian poet, playwright, and novelist, is considered the creator of the modern Russian language.
