By violating the Constitution and the Dayton Peace Agreement, Bosniak politicians have clearly shown what they think about Serbs and Republika Srpska through their resolution. This was the message from Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik and the Serb member of the BiH Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, on the eve of the vote at the UN General Assembly.
“We will do everything to preserve peace, but we will not remain in BiH,” Dodik said.
The potential adoption of the Srebrenica resolution at the UN General Assembly would mark the end of the state union of BiH, according to Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik. He sees the peaceful separation of Republika Srpska and the Federation as the only solution.
“We choose a peaceful separation, and we will propose this tomorrow from the Government session in Srebrenica, we will propose it to the federal side. The synonym for this resolution could be – the end of BiH. BiH does not deserve to be a state. It isn’t,” said Dodik.
Dodik describes the move by Bosniak politicians as the height of cynicism and hypocrisy, adding that there is no reason to forgive or forget such actions. He asserts that there are individual verdicts and rejects any possibility of imposing collective responsibility. He will seek support from Serbia for further steps at the all-Serb assembly.
“BiH has no chance of surviving. Republika Srpska must go its own way. We will now at the joint Serb assembly in Belgrade seek a decision to support Republika Srpska in its path to a peaceful separation from BiH using its Dayton rights,” Dodik added.
The Presidency did not take a unified stance on the resolution, and all lobbying by Lagumdžija, Bećirović, and Komšić represents a continuation of institutional and constitutional abuses, says the Serb member of the Presidency. Cvijanović states that there is a hidden agenda behind the resolution. She questions her colleagues from the Federation on how to proceed.
“I don’t think any decisions can be made because this practice nullifies everything the Constitution has provided to reach legitimate decisions. It’s complicated, but I think this is a turning point where many things will unravel in the coming period,” said Željka Cvijanović.
The President of Republika Srpska expressed regret for every innocent victim but pointed out the evident manipulation with the number of casualties in Srebrenica, while crimes against Serb civilians are swept under the rug.
“How is it possible that you have no feelings for Serb victims? What are you trying to tell us? Of course not, we are an honest historical people living here who have not engaged in any crimes. We want and will act responsibly to preserve peace. Everything we do will be done peacefully, but we will not stay in BiH,” emphasized Dodik.
According to Cvijanović, the United Nations has long lost its credibility, as evidenced by the way the resolution reached the General Assembly.
“However, this is not the only example. Everything that is happening today related to the conflict in Ukraine, the conflict in Gaza, and everything that happened before shows the organization’s inability to respond adequately, because it is a platform and place where political interests clash, not political desires to resolve what is a political or security problem,” Cvijanović added.
The President of Republika Srpska wrote to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to draw attention to the devastating consequences of adopting the Srebrenica Resolution and to request that Greece seriously reconsider its potential intention to support the resolution.
