The people of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) should choose their own future, and the United Kingdom supports the ambition for greater Euro-Atlantic integration of BiH, stated James Kariuki, Deputy Ambassador of the UK to the UN.
During the debate in the UN Security Council, Kariuki said that opening negotiations with BiH on EU membership is important in this direction.
Kariuki emphasized that politicians need to work together on reforms and accused certain politicians in Republika Srpska of “making efforts to undermine BiH’s institutions,” describing them as “the main threat to BiH’s future.”
The UK representative supported the work of the Office of the High Representative (OHR) and called on all parties in BiH to “cooperate with Christian Schmidt’s office.”
Kariuki highlighted that London welcomes all efforts aimed at promoting reconciliation in BiH, including the EUFOR Mission “Althea.”
He called on all political actors in BiH to set aside party goals and work together on implementing the Dayton Agreement and creating a more stable, peaceful, and prosperous future for all people in BiH.
