Nebenzya: Schmidt has no right to address the UN Security Council

Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzya emphasized that Christian Schmidt does not have a mandate to act as High Representative and has no right to address the Security Council meeting.

Nebenzya stated that Schmidt’s address to the Security Council discredits this UN body, adding that he presents a subjective view of the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

Nebenzya mentioned that Schmidt’s actions are worsening relations in BiH, expressing hope that the Office of the High Representative (OHR) will soon be closed.

“We are disappointed with the Althea report on the situation in BiH, which is biased and does not reflect the real situation,” he said at the Security Council meeting on the situation in BiH.

The Russian representative stressed that the resolution on Srebrenica, backed by Germany, violates the Dayton Agreement.

“This resolution is contrary to the Constitution of BiH, does not represent the will of all in BiH, and its text contradicts the Dayton Agreement. Why is Germany backing the resolution, having committed two genocides in the 20th century? This has been ongoing since the breakup of Yugoslavia, the bombing of Serbs, labeling an entire nation with one name, while Germany’s actions in the 20th century are ignored. We oppose the actions of the Western world, especially its presence in political Sarajevo. All of this is unacceptable, even under the UN Charter,” Nebenzya emphasized.

He said that Russia advocates for strict adherence to the Dayton Agreement and consensus among the representatives of the three constituent peoples.

“The adoption of the resolution will bring BiH back to past conflicts and will not help the country’s progress,” the Russian representative stressed.

He recalled that the address by the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, at today’s meeting was not agreed upon in the BiH Presidency and that actions contrary to the constitutional order of BiH are being repeated.

“This could lead to new conflicts that threaten the stability of BiH. They are trying to implement Western ideas of a unitary state, ignoring the interests of the Serbian people. We call on the elected representatives of BiH to work in the interest of BiH, but we have elected representatives who are under sanctions, creating a crisis. Republika Srpska is not happy about this. Serbs are accused of separatism, and some even consider them a genocidal people. No one should be deluded by this Western rhetoric,” Nebenzya said.

Nebenzya emphasized the need to carefully read the report from Republika Srpska on the situation in BiH to gain a realistic picture of the state of affairs in BiH.
