The Republika Srpska expresses its deep gratitude to Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó for his statement that Hungary will vote against the resolution on Srebrenica, said President of the Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik.

“This statement emphasizes the importance of stability in the Western Balkans and the role that EU accession of the Balkans can play in easing tensions. It is high time to move beyond the framework of the 1990s. We call on the Bosniaks to leave the 1990s behind and join the Serbs in efforts towards a European future. Only then can we work together to build a better future for all of us,” the President of Srpska said on his X account.

Dodik emphasized his support for Hungary’s position that EU decisions should contribute to the real calming of the situation in the Balkans, rather than increasing tensions.

“We agree with Minister Szijjártó’s view that the international community should conclude its activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and cease threats of sanctions and interference in the internal affairs of that country. Peace in the Balkans is not just a matter of local importance but is crucial for the stability of the entire Europe. We welcome Hungary’s efforts to contribute to stability and peace in the Western Balkans and beyond in Europe,” Dodik stated.

Dodik added that the Republika Srpska is open to working diligently with the democratically elected representatives of all peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina on European integrations where there is consensus, and in which it has allies and sincere friends.

“It is high time for tragic events to become places of respect and pain for those who have the right to it. That right does not belong to geopolitical interests, which today use resolutions to cleanse their conscience but tarnish our chance to have normal democratic relations. This is an abuse and will not pass, just as the labeling and demonization of Serbs, who have made the greatest sacrifices on the altar of freedom in the 20th century, will not pass,” concluded Dodik.
