The largest city in Republika Srpska will host the historic final tournament of the BiH Cup on May 25 and 26. For the first time in BiH, and possibly in the region and beyond, the decision on who will take home the trophy for the best team in the most massive competition will be made on the same weekend, in the same city, for both women and men.
The leaders of the women’s and men’s handball clubs Borac have taken on the task with enthusiasm, aiming to make this year’s organization in Banja Luka memorable and surpass all previous ones. The campaign for the organization officially starts tomorrow. However, a meeting has already been held between the directors of the two clubs, Vladimir Branković and Darko Savić, and the head of the SC “Borik,” Nenad Talić. The final match times are also set for Sunday, May 26. The women will compete for the trophy at 18:00, and the men at 20:30. Both matches will be broadcast live on “Arenasport.” The day before, in the semifinals, the women’s competition will feature: Grude vs. Krivaja (13:30) and Borac vs. Hadžići (18:00). In the men’s competition, the matches are: Leotar vs. Konjuh (16:00) and Borac vs. Gračanica (20:00).
- We have significant support from the director of the “Borik” arena, Nenad Talić, and the entire staff of the Sports Center. Our priority was to ensure the tournament is widely visible. We made an agreement with the leaders of “Arenasport” for them to broadcast the final matches live. This is great for the promotion of the sport. All this incurs significant costs, but the contract with “Arena” has facilitated negotiations with sponsors. We will strive to have additional activities over these two days, especially for our youngest fans, who will have a fun park with many activities. Everything will be free, including some gifts. We also planned prize games for all visitors. I think both the kids and their parents will be satisfied. In addition to the matches, we will try to organize a part with cultural and artistic programs to complement the event – said Branković.
Full-day tickets are planned for both days of the tournament. On the first day, four semifinal matches can be watched for five convertible marks, while entry to both finals on Sunday will cost two marks more.
- We invite people to come to the “Borik” arena for those two days, enjoy good matches, and present the best possible image of Banja Luka. We promise to dedicate ourselves to everyone. We will have many guests, and our city will welcome many people from outside, so our hoteliers and restaurateurs will benefit from this tournament – added Savić.
Chasing the eighth trophy
Interestingly, both home teams, RK Borac and ŽRK Borac, are chasing their eighth BiH Cup winner’s trophy. If the men win, they will become the most successful team in the most massive competition in BiH.
- We must perform well on the field. I guarantee we have the quality to win the trophy. The only imperative is for the guys to give their maximum on the field – emphasized Branković.
The “wasps” are also optimistic. They believe that after three years, they can bring the trophy back to Banja Luka.
- I am convinced that in front of the home crowd, if we get past Hadžići, we can defeat Grude, who have been unbeatable this season – noted Savić.
