Zoran Anđelković, President of the Center for Peace and Tolerance, assessed for Srna that tonight’s address by the Serb member of the Presidency of BiH, Željka Cvijanović, at the UN Security Council session is very significant as it will be an opportunity to inform the global public about the actual situation in BiH and point out the violations of the BiH Constitution and the Dayton Agreement.
Anđelković believes it is also important that Cvijanović will inform the UN Security Council via video link that the decision by the head of the BiH mission at the UN, Zlatko Lagumdžija, to prepare a resolution on Srebrenica was made without the knowledge of the Presidency of BiH and without her consent, which constitutes a violation of the Dayton Agreement.
“This is a direct violation of the Dayton Agreement and jeopardizes the position of the Serbs – one of the constituent peoples in BiH who are equal with the other two and make up 32% of the total population,” stated Anđelković.
Commenting on the USA’s request for Christian Schmidt to also speak at tonight’s Security Council session on the situation in BiH, Anđelković noted that it is unclear how someone who has not been appointed by the UN body to any function could address it, yet “behaves like an authoritarian monarch.”
“For 29 years since the end of the war and the signing of the Dayton Agreement, there has been a dictatorial regime of the representatives of the Quint countries in BiH. Their representatives were at least appointed by the decision of the UN Security Council before, but not anymore. That’s why we have a situation where Schmidt draws authority, and there is no basis for it,” Anđelković pointed out.
He believes that Russia’s support for Republika Srpska and Serbia on the international stage is extremely important, despite some critics now arguing that Banja Luka and Belgrade have nothing from Moscow since the West will allegedly push through the Srebrenica resolution in the UN General Assembly.
“They forget that Russia in 2018 stopped a Srebrenica resolution in the Security Council initiated by Great Britain. The Russians then raised their hand and vetoed that decision. That’s why the Western countries now secretly worked around the Security Council to shift it to the UN General Assembly,” Anđelković explained.
He noted that it remains to be seen what the alleged Western majority in the UN General Assembly will be like, adding that it is obviously shaken, as the vote has been moved and will not be held on May 2nd as previously planned.
“President /of Serbia Aleksandar/ Vučić and his team have caused serious confusion in the calculations of the ‘omnipotent’ Western countries. Of course, the support of Russia as a permanent member of the UN Security Council is very important. We do not need to reinvent the wheel and should accept the support of those who want to help us, which are certainly Russia, China, India, and other countries of the free world,” emphasized Anđelković.
