Dačić: Emergency UN Security Council session on BiH, at Russia’s request, likely on April 30

Serbia’s Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić stated today that an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council on BiH, at the request of Russia, will most likely be held on April 30.

Dačić mentioned that Russia requested an urgent session of the Security Council concerning BiH.

“From what it looks like since last night, since Slovenia was contesting it, Malta is asking for a closed session, whether it will happen or not, as there is also a regular session scheduled. A regular session of the Security Council on BiH is expected in May,” Dačić told TV Prva.

Dačić said that, according to information from last night, the session will be held on April 30, and Željka Cvijanović, the Serb member of the Presidency of BiH, will likely address it online if she does not receive a visa.

He added that someone from the Bosniak side in BiH will probably speak as well, although it is still not known who.

“Then there will probably be a regular session about BiH in mid-May,” Dačić added.

He emphasized that the resolution on Srebrenica is currently under review and that it is a success for Serbia that this topic was reconsidered.

“I think that the majority of countries would prefer that this not be on the agenda at all. Even those who sponsored this resolution find themselves in an awkward position on how to respond, which proves that it was an absolutely unconsidered political gesture that obviously has some other hidden intentions. These are intentions obviously related to putting pressure on Serbia, as an independent country that conducts an autonomous foreign policy based on our national and state interests,” said Dačić.

Dačić reiterated that the issue around the resolution on Srebrenica could cause great instability in the region and is utterly counterproductive.

“They will certainly not give up on this resolution unless they are compelled to by those who have proposed the resolution. I mean, Germany will certainly not give up, but maybe some other countries will. It won’t be on May 2, but when it will be, we will see. We continue this fight,” emphasized Dačić.
