Radovan Kovačević, the spokesperson for the SNSD, stated that Republika Srpska desires to join the EU as a community of free and sovereign states where decisions are made by representatives of the citizens in institutions.
“If we want to move towards the EU, we believe that the Union should be a community of free and sovereign states, a society where we also wish to belong,” he emphasized.
Kovačević highlighted that BiH should not be part of the EU if there continues to be an outsider who no one called, no one elected, appointed, or gave a mandate or authority, who imposes decisions and laws instead of institutions, citizens, and their political representatives.
“That would definitely not be a setting in which we want to be and belong,” stressed Kovačević.
He noted that a period has been given for Christian Schmidt to withdraw the imposed Electoral Law himself, although, as he said, the SNSD is not overly convinced that this will happen. Space has also been provided for partners in power at the level of BiH to, as representatives of institutions, citizens, and people in BiH, jointly declare some decisions void and enact replacements.
“If that does not happen, then we are entering a serious period. Republika Srpska will adopt its own Electoral Law and, in accordance with the Constitution and the current Electoral Law, conduct the level of elections that Republika Srpska is entitled to,” said Kovačević for RTS.
Speaking about Schmidt, Kovačević confirmed that he is precisely what the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, described after meeting him, namely, just Christian Schmidt.
“That is exactly what we have been saying all this time – a German citizen who currently resides in BiH and gives himself rights that no one has in any country in the world, especially not in Europe,” emphasized Kovačević, who is also a delegate in the Club of the Serbian people in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.
