During the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of Southeast European Parliament Delegations at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Tirana, Radovan Kovačević, a member of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the delegation of the PSBiH at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, expressed concerns about the destabilizing actions of an illegal foreign entity enforcing laws and undermining the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Kovačević addressed these issues during a discussion on regional challenges in Southeast Europe. In response to a comment from an Albanian parliamentarian that actions by the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, might open Pandora’s box, Kovačević retorted that Dodik’s actions have merely opened Bosnia and Herzegovina to negotiations with the EU, whereas the real threat to Pandora’s box in Bosnia and Herzegovina comes from an illegal foreigner imposing laws and undermining sovereignty.
In his address, Kovačević emphasized the importance of cooperation across Southeast Europe, highlighting Bosnia and Herzegovina’s progress, including rapid government formation following elections, acquisition of EU candidate status, and commencement of negotiations—all spearheaded by the current government’s initiative.
He reminded the attendees of the joint contributions of the governing parties, the three constituent peoples, and others towards EU integration. Kovačević stressed the importance of regional issues of mutual interest, including economic, touristic, and broader concerns.
The forum, co-organized by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the Parliament of Albania, discussed several critical issues for Southeast Europe, including OSCE’s presence and activities in Albania, the current challenges Albania and other regional countries face on their path to the European Union.
The first day of the Forum concluded with discussions on the impact of migrations through crisis zones on the region, the problem of emigration, and parliamentary support for programs addressing these issues.
The second day of the Forum is set to include the formation of parliamentary working groups that will hold separate sessions to discuss confidence-building in the region, energy security, and environmental protection.
Experiences and best practices will be shared regarding the solidarity of regional countries in dealing with natural disasters.
