Yesterday’s session of the National Assembly and the conclusions discussed therein were prompted by increasing pressure and attempts at imposition. Christian Schmidt decided to impose amendments to the Election Law just a few days after Brussels gave a tacit approval for the negotiating path of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This move was a blow to the attempts at domestic agreement, but also to Brussels’ efforts to strengthen Bosnia and Herzegovina’s independence. Brussels has reproached him for this.
And to avoid any confusion, these are not just technical changes to the Election Law introducing scanners at polling stations, but Christian Schmidt has encroached upon the right of citizens to choose and to be chosen.
