Christian Šmit has sunk to a new level of hypocrisy by presuming to decide on behalf of the people in BiH who they can vote for, calling it “democracy” and “electoral integrity,” thereby mocking these concepts and continuing the attack on the lawful rights of Serbs and the national integrity of Republika Srpska, stated the esteemed American analyst and former diplomat James Jatras.
“Gauleiter Šmit has sunk to a new level of hypocrisy,” said Jatras, using the term for the party leader of a regional branch of the Nazi Party, meaning “leader of a Gau,” a territorial region in Nazi Germany.
Jatras pointed out that Šmit, who is not even legally appointed to his position, claims to protect the democratic integrity of voting in BiH by trying to impose, through undemocratic personal decree, a vote-counting system that would transfer electoral integrity from paper ballots to electronic vote counting.
- He emphasized that people in America know from bitter experience that those who control the system can most easily manipulate electronic vote counting.
“Worsening his attack on the legitimate rights of Serbs and the national integrity of Republika Srpska, Šmit presumes to decide which candidates the people will be allowed to vote for. Calling this ‘democracy’ and ‘electoral integrity’ is a mockery of these concepts,” added Jatras, who holds a Doctor of Law degree from Georgetown University.
Šmit announced on Tuesday, March 26, that he had decided to impose amendments to the Election Law of BiH with the aim, he says, of “supporting the announced process of BiH’s accession to the EU.”
