Stevandić: Šmit Should Return to Germany

The President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Nenad Stevandić, today urged Christian Šmit to catch the first plane and return to Germany.

Discussing the imposition of changes to the Electoral Law in BiH, Stevandić described it as an idiotic law, mentioning it proposes experiments with scanners at polling stations in five municipalities, while others will not have them.

“Conducting elections in five municipalities under one principle and in 55 others under a different one, anywhere in the world, is idiocy,” he said.

Stevandić highlighted that Šmit’s action has been condemned by the EU and the Croatian National Assembly in BiH, which means that, according to him, the illegal Šmit, without the Security Council’s approval, pretending to be a lackey of the American Embassy, currently faces opposition from two peoples and one entity, the EU, and the Security Council.

He questioned “on whose authority Šmit even exists and operates.”

“If Šmit were a normal person, he would have immediately caught the first flight to Germany. You have a man who acts against the EU, Serbs and Croats as constituent peoples, against the UN Security Council which rejected his appointment. There is no place in the world, except this theater of the absurd in BiH, where such a person organizes press conferences, changes laws, arrests people, and determines political processes. If he were at all normal, he would’ve left for Germany this instant, even by car if there were no flights, because this is unprecedented in Europe,” said Stevandić.

He emphasized that Šmit’s actions aim to provoke conflicts, unrest, and tense situations in BiH and to destroy BiH’s European path.

Asked whether there is a possibility for local political actors in BiH to agree on the electoral law, Stevandić said that such a possibility exists, adding that any agreement is better than any imposition.

“Republika Srpska has shown this through its decisions, which enabled the approval of BiH’s EU path,” said Stevandić.

He stated that the question now is whether the Troika will listen to Šmit or the voice of their people for peace, without divisions and conflicts.
