The Minister of Security in the Council of Ministers, Nenad Nesic, expressed his belief that BiH has provided enough arguments that no one can continue finding excuses to avoid starting accession negotiations with BiH.
“The issue of our relationship with the EU is primarily their political issue. BiH has already been treated unfairly when Moldova and Ukraine were given consent to open accession negotiations, while we were put in the same basket as Georgia. Neither is Moldova better than BiH, nor has it met more conditions, nor does it respect European standards more than us, but it quickly filed for candidate status, received that status, and consent to start negotiations. The process that takes eight and more years for Balkan countries was swiftly concluded in their case. The same applies to Ukraine, which moreover does not even control its own territory,” says Nesic.
The EU is significant for BiH but, as he says, “unfortunately, we cannot influence their political views.”
“We have done everything that is up to us. We have shown full dedication to EU integrations, demonstrated that internal dialogue is possible. Therefore, I expect them to clearly tell us whether they are for further EU expansion and whether there is a place for BiH in that package. I hope for a positive outcome because we have already fulfilled most of our obligations. The Ministry I head has fulfilled all obligations, with full respect for the country’s constitutional structure and the competencies of various levels of authority,” Nesic emphasizes.
Nesic conveyed that European values are needed for a better quality of life, and the only thing expected is a fair, not a demeaning relationship.
