The Minister of European Integration and International Cooperation of the Republika Srpska, Zlatan Klokić, stated that yet another attempt by Brussels to impose sanctions on the President of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, will turn into an unsuccessfully sung swan song of the outgoing structure of the European Parliament.

Klokić emphasized that those who voted for the resolution in the European Parliament obviously “mixed up their pots” and, as usual, misinterpreted the real situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“How many times do we need to repeat that secession is not on the agenda at all? The Republika Srpska advocates for a return to the original Dayton Peace Agreement and dialogue, and if we agree to declare such intentions secessionist, then we will close our eyes to the obvious double standards and constant disrespect and pressure on only one side in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Klokić told Srna.

He mentioned that the outgoing composition of the European Parliament just took another opportunity to confirm its already known positions, which will not affect the Republika Srpska in its commitment to the European integration process, conducted within the coordination system framework, respecting constitutional competencies.

“We also hope that the new session of the European Parliament will elect people who will work in the interest of the original European values and respect for freedom, democracy, and freedom of speech. This session has trampled all that with yesterday’s resolution,” Klokić said.

In its resolution, the European Parliament once again called for “targeted sanctions” against Dodik and other high-ranking officials of Srpska and Serbia “who provide material support to the secessionist policy”, and for all members to “ensure that similar sanctions can be adopted by the European Council, and to impose them bilaterally or together with other members, if their adoption is not possible in the Council”.
