Defending one’s country is the most noble act, and the most valuable fruit of that struggle is the Republika Srpska, the guarantor of freedom and survival of the Serb people in these areas. This message was conveyed at the “Gift for Eternity” academy, organized by the Veterans’ Organization of the city of Prijedor on the occasion of Veterans’ Day.

During the Defense-Patriotic War, 17,000 fighters passed through Prijedor’s war brigades, the 43rd and the Fifth, and MUP units. 642 lost their lives, and more than two thousand were wounded.

“By creating the Republika Srpska, this generation has secured the future for our generations, and this is what we must forever cherish and maintain and pass on to our descendants,” emphasized Vojislav Kondić, President of the Veterans’ Organization of the city of Prijedor.

The Mayor of Prijedor, Slobodan Javor, congratulated Veterans’ Day and stressed that younger generations should be taught that their ancestors were brave, dignified, and decisive in the struggle to save the Serb people.

“I am pleased that the city of Prijedor can proudly say it was part of the creation of the Republic of Srpska, and we will all together make sure to preserve our Republika Srpska,” Javor conveyed.

The honorary guest of the academy was General Momir Zec, commander of Operational Group 10, which in the autumn of 1995 defended the western Krajina municipalities from the aggression of the Croatian Army and the so-called Army of BiH.

“Thanks to the perseverance of the fighters and the people who believed in the defense, we created the Republic of Srpska, and that was the key battle for preserving the Republic of Srpska and the negotiations in Dayton,” highlighted Momir Zec, general of the Army of the Republika Srpska.

At the academy, the Prijedor Veterans’ Organization awarded a recognition to Milimir Vujadinović, a member of the National Assembly of Serbia.

“By coming here, I want to show the unity that the leadership, led by the Serbian president and the Government in Belgrade, has with the institutions of the Republika Srpska, as well as with the people,” said Vujadinović.

The academy was also attended by Mira Zgonjanin, the envoy of the President of Srpska. On the occasion of Veterans’ Day, wreaths were laid, and candles were lit at the central monument “For the Honorable Cross”.
