Delegations of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija, along with the Committee for Aid to Kosovo and Metohija, today laid a wreath and flowers at the monument for 12 Banja Luka babies on the occasion of January 9—Republic of Srpska Day.
The wreath was laid by the President of the Serbian List, Zlatan Elek, and the President of the Committee for Aid to Kosovo and Metohija, Milorad Arlov.
Elek, along with extending congratulations to all citizens of Srpska on Republic Day, told reporters that this monument serves as a reminder that a crime like the one in 1992, where 12 lives were lost due to lack of oxygen, should never happen again.
We almost faced a similar fate in Kosovo and Metohija. Thank God that reason prevailed, and we received oxygen, Elek emphasized.
He emphasized that the 12 Banja Luka babies would be residents of Srpska today if their right to life had not been denied.
Elek expressed hope that there will be no more such events and that people will live in peace and tolerance.
Arlov pointed out that on this day, celebrating the 32nd birthday of the Republic of Srpska, one must remember the newborn babies who lost their lives due to the negligence of the international community because they were not provided with adequate attention.
“Their lives were the last straw that warned the Serbian people to break through the corridor of life and defend Srpska, whose birthday we celebrate today,” Arlov stated.
By the decision of the UN Security Council in May and June 1992, international flights, even those with oxygen cylinders, from Belgrade to Banja Luka were banned. This led to the unfortunate deaths of 12 newborn babies who were in incubators.
