Ostojić: Republika Srpska and January 9th are sacred for Serb fighters.”

Radan Ostojić, the president of the Veterans’ Organization of Republika Srpska (VORS), emphasized that Republika Srpska and January 9th, the Republic Day, are sacred for Serbian fighters. He stated that they will never allow the abolishment of Republika Srpska and its birthday.

“To all those advocating for the abolition of Republika Srpska and this date, I say that they are engaged in a futile endeavor, and we will not allow it. We will celebrate this date as long as there are fighters, Republika Srpska, and the Serbian people,” said Ostojić regarding the upcoming marking of January 9th – Republic Day.

Ostojić emphasized that for the Veterans’ Organization of Republika Srpska (VORS) and all fighters, January 9th – Republic Day is the most important date of the year.

“-It is the birthday of Republika Srpska, the day when Republika Srpska was created by the will of the Serb people, and later defended with their lives and bodies by members of the Army and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska. Republika Srpska and this day are sanctuaries for Serbian fighters!“ Ostojić conveyed.

Republika Srpska will tomorrow, with pride of all citizens, celebrate its 32nd birthday and Republic Day, which will be marked in the most spectacular way to date.

The ninth of January is celebrated as the Day of Republika Srpska because on that date in 1992, it was established under the original name of the Republic of the Serbian People in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Serb representatives in the then Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina established Republika Srpska after being outvoted on key issues related to the survival of Yugoslavia. Members of the other two ethnic groups began secession without the consent of the Serbs, who had the status of a constituent people.

The name “Republika srpskog naroda u BiH” was in use until February 28, 1992, and the declaration of the first constitution when it was replaced with “Srpska Republika BiH.” This name was used until August 12, 1992, when it was changed to “Republika Srpska.” The current name “Republika Srpska” was adopted in September 1992.
