The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has brought charges against Nermin Porić for war crimes against prisoners of war near Bosanska Krupa. He is currently outside the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, awaiting extradition.

The accused, born in 1969 in Bosanska Krupa, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia, residing permanently in Austria, is charged with acting against the provisions of the Geneva Conventions on the protection of prisoners of war as the commander of the Military Police of the so-called Army of Bosnia and Heryegovina during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The indictment alleges that in the summer of 1995, the accused committed a crime during the attack and capture of at least 25 members of the Republika Srpska Army in the locations of Kobiljnaka, Osmace, and Cojluk in the municipality of Bosanska Krupa, where four prisoners were immediately killed, and the rest were taken to facilities under the control of the Military Police of the 511th Mountain Brigade of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as reported by Sarajevo media.

They were subsequently killed at three locations, some by gunfire and others by severe beatings to death.
As the commander of the Military Police, Porić personally participated in the capture and shooting of some prisoners. Also, as a commander, he was aware that subordinates in the Military Police were carrying out illegal detentions and murders of prisoners but did nothing to prevent the crimes or punish the perpetrators.

The accused is charged with the criminal offense of war crimes against prisoners of war under Article 175 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Since the accused is located in Austria, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina will take legally prescribed actions for his extradition and trial in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the coming period, as reported by Sputnik.”
