Bogdana Koljević, a Republika Srpska senator and future member of the Serbian Parliament from the citizens’ association ‘Mi-Glas iz Naroda’ (We-Voice of the People), spoke to SRNA.

Koljević highlighted that Republika Srpska represents the westernmost point of the Eastern world. She noted that attempts to challenge the celebration of January 9th, Republic Day, stem from this and coincide with legal proceedings against the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik.

“These challenges have already become a tradition; it would be unusual if they weren’t present. It’s all part of the continuity of attacks on the Serb world as a whole. Of course, these pressures are growing, especially with ongoing liberation processes and geopolitical changes,” said Koljević in anticipation of Republika Srpska Day.

She emphasized that it is crucial for Republika Srpska to firmly hold its ground during the current transitional period.

January 9th is celebrated as Republic Day of Republika Srpska, as it marks the date in 1992 when it was established under the original name of the Serb Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

It was established by Serb deputies in the then-Bosnia and Herzegovina Assembly after being outvoted on crucial issues concerning the survival of Yugoslavia, while members of the other two nations proceeded with secession against the will of the Serbs, who had the status of a constitutive nation.”
