The President of the Brčko District Assembly, Siniša Milić, told Srna that there is no reason for any military troops to be deployed in Brčko, neither for security nor any other reasons.

“I can responsibly affirm that the political and security situation in the Brčko District is more than stable; I would say it’s even better than in 2000,” emphasized Milić.

According to him, the best indicator of this state is the fact that seven days ago, the District Assembly unanimously, with the support of all representatives of the three constituent peoples and national minorities, adopted the budget for this local community for the year 2024, amounting to around 400 million KM.

“This, together with the confirmed dedication of all Brčko District institutions to continue reforms, to implement numerous crucial infrastructural and other projects, to support various economic initiatives, and to maintain excellent inter-ethnic relations, undoubtedly contradicts all those who have been labeling Brčko as a trouble spot for months,” said Milić.

He added that such results deserve support and encouragement rather than punishment through the deployment of any military forces.

“So, the real question is, actually, who and why are the stable political relations in Brčko bothering, and who and why doesn’t want the efficient functioning of district institutions?” Milić stated.
Deputy Chairperson of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Denis Zvizdić, has called for the urgent deployment of EUFOR and NATO soldiers to the area of Brčko as “a preventive activity to preserve peace and stability in BiH, the region, and the EU.”
