“The leading researcher at the Center for Geopolitics at the University of Cambridge, Timothy Less, has stated that Europe plays a significant role in fostering greater independence for Republika Srpska, while Russia supports the Serb, and America is currently in political disorder.”
“During the lecture on the ‘Geopolitical Aspects of the Position of Republika Srpska’ held tonight in Banja Luka, Less mentioned six key international actors, or countries, that can either assist or hinder the independence and secession of Republika Srpska from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to a study published in 2020, the United States are currently polarized and face challenges projecting power to defend the integrity of the international order, as stated by Less.
“The weakening of American power is not a matter of circumstances, but a choice because Americans oppose interventionism outside the U.S.,” Less emphasized.
He pointed out that public opinion surveys indicate that half of Americans are weary of wars in the Middle East.
He also highlighted that, similar to the United States, Europe can either aid or thwart Republika Srpska’s struggle for greater independence and plays a significant role in fostering it.”
“High Representative is currently in conflict with the leadership of Republika Srpska and has the support of Germany and the United Kingdom. The EU has revitalized its expansion policy towards Eastern Europe to counter Russia’s influence,” added Less.
Less emphasized that the German government is increasingly weakening and losing popularity, while the UK is facing its biggest crisis since the 1970s due to high levels of public debt, internal divisions, and political dysfunctionality.
He assessed that next year’s elections will lead to a change in the British government and that one-fifth of the country does not support such policies.
“The EU is in a state of collapse, as reflected in the reduction of solidarity. The fact is that the EU is too weak and divided to expand to the East in the near future,” stated Less during his lecture.
Less mentioned that among the actors who can either help or hinder Republika Srpska, Russia stands differently from the US and Europeans and believes that Republika Srpska should not be punished.
“Russia is capable of thwarting and helping Republika Srpska, with an emphasis on the latter. Although it supports Serb opposed to the Bosnian state, it supports the independence of Republika Srpska because it has an interest in preserving the norm of territorial integrity,” added Less.
He noted that among international actors, there is a group of individual actors, namely Russia and China, with considerable economic, political, and military power, collectively opposing the West and desiring to create new coalitions and partnerships among themselves.
Less also mentioned Croatia’s role in the story of Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, protecting the interests of the Croatian people.
The lecture was attended by the President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, the President of the National Assembly Nenad Stevandic, Prime Minister Radovan Viskovic, ministers in the Republika Srpska Government, Members of Parliament, and numerous figures from the political and public life of Republika Srpska.”
