“Since the signing of the Dayton Agreement, Bosnia and Herzegovina has come a long way. However, it is difficult to speak of a true interethnic reconciliation that everyone dreamed of, given the coordinated attempts by external and internal players to undermine the foundations of the agreement,” said Maria Zakharova, a representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“As signatories to the agreement, we cannot ignore the efforts, supported by the Western community, aimed at diluting the principles of equality among the three nations and two entities, which is causing the breakdown of the country’s multiethnic character. There is a trend toward the unitarization of Bosnia and Herzegovina based on a neoliberal concept, contrary to the Dayton Agreement,” Zakharova explained.
She noted that the agreement’s provisions no longer align with the interests of those seeking to forcefully integrate Bosnia and Herzegovina into Euro-Atlantic networks.
The transformation of the High Representative’s office from a mechanism fostering Bosnia and Herzegovina sovereignty, according to the Russian representative, into a tool suppressing the sovereign rights of the country’s people could be seen as direct violence against the peace agreement.
“How is it possible that, in the 21st century in Europe, with the efforts of Brussels, Washington, and London, a system of colonial administration has been established in an independent state like Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a puppet, installed by the voluntaristic decisions of those capitals, presenting itself as the master of people’s destiny?” Zakharova questioned.
According to her, this has nothing to do with the interests of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Russia has repeatedly warned that all this could have catastrophic consequences.”
