The play “Carlotta Grisi – from Vizinada to Eternity,” directed by Ljiljana Gvozdenović, was declared the best at the 28th International Festival of Small Scenes and Monodrama of the Republic of Srpska held in East New Sarajevo.
The jury stated in their decision that the play explores themes of love, freedom, and art, as well as the questions of how to preserve independence and individuality in relation to one’s profession, audience, and closest ones.
“The original and effective musical arrangements place this performance in the context of contemporary musicals in classical theater,” the jury decision stated, composed of actress Lidija Vukićević, director Vitomir Mitrić, and theater expert Zoran Todorović.
The play features Anamarija Serda and Ronald Braus in the cast.
Among the five monodramas performed at the festival, “Miloš Veliki – knjaz srpski” based on the text by Milovan Vitezović and directed by Milan Rus, the director of the Serbian Theater in Hungary, stood out. The role of Miloš Obrenović was portrayed by Aleksandar Dunić.
Dunić’s powerful interpretation of Miloš Obrenović serves as a poignant reminder that faith, hope, and ideals are the greatest motivating factors that turn individuals into giants of a nation. The jury emphasized that the ideal of freedom is the greatest value for which our ancestors fought and sacrificed, desiring that all Serb live in a strong and free state.
At the recommendation of the professional jury, the Festival of Small Scenes and Monodrama’s organizers established a special award, the “Stone Tear Sculpture,” which was awarded to the monodrama “K’o kamen – Velenka Brstinova and her daughter Dragana” based on the text by Dragana Mandrapa from East Sarajevo, performed by Ljiljana Čekić.
The jury stated that this play belongs to the genre of documentary drama, written in a confessional form that portrays different personalities, mother and daughter, Velenka and Dragana, women with different life stories but identical strength shown in moments when facing life’s tragedies.
Actress Ljiljana Čekić skillfully and sincerely portrays these moments, depicting the strength of life that always finds its way into existence, as well as the character of women as strong as Herzegovinian stone, according to the jury.
The Audience Award went to the play “I/about/me,” directed by Velimir Tešić and featuring Mina Lazarević and Srđan Ivanović.
According to the jury’s assessment, the best actor of the festival was Stevan Vuković for the role of Jevrem Prokić in the play “Narodni poslanik” based on Branislav Nušić’s text, performed by the Nikšić Theater.
The best actress of the festival, as declared by the jury, was Tamara Krcunović for the role of Marijana in the play “Scenes from Married Life” by the City Theater Gradiska and RRD Belgrade, directed by Ana Tomović.
With the announcement of the winners and the presentation of awards, the 28th International Festival of Small Scenes and Monodrama of the Republic of Srpska concluded tonight at the Cultural Center of East New Sarajevo. The festival lasted from Thursday, December 7.
The audience had the opportunity to see five theater performances and six monodramas from Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The patron of the festival was the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Srpska, the Ministry of Culture of Serbia, the city of East Sarajevo, and the municipalities of East New Sarajevo and East Ilidža, with the support of the Central Library of East Sarajevo and the Music Academy of the University of East Sarajevo.
