Actors from the National Theatre in Belgrade, Dimitrije Ilić and Lepomir Ivković, performed the historical drama “Famous Serb Dukes” in Doboj as part of the event “Days of Serbia in Republika Srpska.” The play is based on the book “Life Transformed into Memory” by retired colonel Mića Živojinović, adapted for the stage by Boško Puletić.
This historical drama aims to portray the characters and deeds of renowned leaders Živojin Mišić and Stepa Stepanović, following the chronology of their wartime and personal friendship through historical events – from the Sarajevo assassination to the battles at Cer and Kolubara, the breakthrough of the Salonika Front, the liberation of the occupied homeland, and the formation of the first Yugoslavia.
Živojinović mentioned to journalists that conversations with Mišić’s family revealed undisclosed historical details. He praised Mišić as one of the few honorable officers who led the Kolubara Battle and defeated three empires – Austro-Hungarian, Bulgarian, and German.
He highlighted the period when military subordination aimed for clarification, stabilization, while the rest relied on comradeship, or as it was called then, fraternal bonds.
Actor Dimitrije Ilić, portraying Vojvoda Mišić, emphasized the play’s depiction of an era of honor and pride, where every word carried weight, and expressions like “thank you” and “I’m sorry” held significance.
Lepomir Ivković, portraying Vojvoda Stepa Stepanović, expressed how this drama holds educational value and is intriguing for students.
As part of the cultural exchange between Serbia and Republika Srpska, soloists from the Serbian National Theatre Opera in Novi Sad and the National Ensemble “Kolo” held concerts in Doboj in November.
The Ministry of Culture of Serbia, with the assistance of the Representative Office of Republika Srpska in Belgrade and the city of Doboj, facilitated the artists’ visit to Republika Srpska.
