“Photo works by Banja Luka artist: Exhibition of Drago Vejnović at the Museum of contemporary art of Republika Srpska”

The exhibition “Return” by Drago Vejnović will be opened at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Republika Srpska (MSU RS) on December 7th at 7 p.m.

The artist and photography professor at the Academy of Arts, University of Banja Luka, Drago Vejnović, invites viewers to return to nature with his new cycle of work.

According to MSU RS, the exhibition consists of photographs in various formats and techniques that intimately and romantically explore the relationship between nature and humans in a contemporary context.

“Inspired by Joseph Conrad’s novel ‘Heart of Darkness,’ Vejnović creates a unique experience, aiming to reconnect observers to their initial instincts through the medium of photography. The ‘Return’ exhibition represents a whole that triggers a unique visual experience of nature for the viewers. Various formats provide insights into scenes seemingly untouched by nature. Through Drago Vejnović’s photographs, we can experience a synesthetic journey—through wide shots, details, refined scenes, we can almost smell the forest and hear its sounds,” reported MSU RS.

As a photography artist, Drago Vejnović has persistently and continuously used his camera for several decades to document and explore details of the landscape environment, revealing layers of reality and different levels of perception in the captured moment. The exhibition will be open until January 25th, 2024, curated by Mladen Banjac.

Drago Vejnović was born in 1964 in Bosanski Novi. He graduated in camera work from the Academy of Arts, University of Banja Luka, and completed his master’s studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Banja Luka. He worked as a photo-reporter for “Novi Krila,” the newsletter of the VRS Air Force and Air Defense from 1993 to 1996. From 1993 to 2006, he worked for the EPA (European Press Photo Agency), publishing photographs in leading global newspapers and magazines.
