Judicial authorities in BiH continue the detrimental practice of bringing indictments against Serb, while no one has been held accountable for the crimes against 3,267 killed members of the Serb people in Srednje Podrinje and Birč, stated Slobodan Župljanin, the president of the Organization of Veterans of the Army of Republika Srpska.
Župljanin remarked that this is evidenced by the latest indictment from the BiH Prosecutor’s Office against seven commanders and members of the Military Police of the Drina Corps Birč Brigade and the 10th Diversant Detachment of the VRS Main Staff, charging them with alleged genocide in the areas of Šekovići and Vlasenica in July 1995.
“Unfortunately, their sole truth and presumption are that only Serb committed war crimes and had no victims, so new indictments continue to arrive continuously,” stated Župljanin.
He highlighted the unfairness of placing the entire burden of war crimes on the Serb side and stated that such practices are used as additional pressure on Republika Srpska.
“It’s certain that such practices will continue, and it’s up to the institutions of Republika Srpska to seek ways to assist the accused while respecting the presumption of innocence, where no one is guilty until proven so by a final court judgment,” remarked Župljanin.
The Independent International Commission for Investigating the Suffering of All Peoples in the Srebrenica Region from 1992-1995 concluded in July 2021 that there was neither a single crime of genocide nor genocide in Srebrenica. The report stated that the findings of the Hague Tribunal on genocide would not stand the test of time.
